On September 6, 2017 at Hotel Aleksandar Palace in Skopje a Conference on "Policies for Balanced Regional Development" was held, which is the closing event of the project "Alliance for Regional Development", implemented by Forum – Center for Strategic Research and Development, Skopje and Youth Initiatives for dialogue and cooperation, Bitola.
Within the conference, the research and analyzes conducted within the "Alliance for Regional Development" were presented and the conclusions related to the policies for balanced regional development that have been implemented in the last ten years and the recommendations for establishing more efficient mechanisms for development of the planning regions and reducing disparities between regions.
The project is funded by the European Union and its main objective is to increase the transparency of public policies for regional development in the Republic of Macedonia by involving representatives of the civil society in all processes of planning and implementation of these policies.
The conference was opened by:
Koco Angjushev, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Chairman of the National Council for Balanced Regional Development of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia,
Nikola Berotlini, Head of the Sector for Cooperation in the Delegation of the European Union, and
Suhail Fazliu, Minister of Local Self-Government.
In the first session of the Conference, Emil Vasilev, Coordinator for Regional Development in the Center for Development of the East Planning Region, presented the present experiences from the work of the Center for Development of the East Planning Region and good practices in project implementation.
Yuri Kobal, Director of Oikos with Case Study: Efficiency of the Polar Regional Development Policies in Slovenia, followed by Sladjan Penev, Executive Director, Forum CSID, who presented the Study on the Effectiveness of the Policies of Balanced Regional Development in the Republic of Macedonia in frames of the Alliance for Regional Development project and Slavica Kucukova Nikolova from the Center of Active Citizens ACTIVO – which presented the Analysis within the project Alliance for Regional Development.
