In the OMC “Kiro Gligorov” in Shtip, the final event was held at which the results of the project for digitization of municipal services were promoted. At the final event, in addition to the mayors from the Eastern region, the permanent representative of the UNDP Mr. Armen Grigoryan, the director of the Regional Development Bureau Mr. Ramiz Redzepi, as well as other representatives of the local governments, the UNDP office, the Regional Development Bureau were present. and media representatives.
With the signing of the Agreement on Intermunicipal Cooperation, the process of creating the digital platform through which the residents of the Eastern Region will be able to submit requests electronically has been completed.
“Digitalization of municipal services in the Eastern Planning Region” is an activity that was applied for funding under the project “Post-COVID: municipalities as drivers for sustainable development” in August 2021, from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Regional Development Bureau. The main bearer of the project was the Municipality of Shtip, and the remaining 10 municipalities in the Eastern Planning Region and the Development Center of the Eastern Planning Region were partners.
The main goal of the project is to enable the transition to the second step in the digitization of municipal operations by facilitating access to municipal services for approximately 160,000 citizens and businesses, through the digitization of a part of the municipal services that are most requested and used in all 11 municipalities from the Eastern planning region.
The project contributes to increasing the transparency of municipalities from the region, reducing the time of receiving and processing requests from citizens, reducing the time for submitting requests for issuing solutions/approvals on various grounds, increasing citizens’ satisfaction with municipal services, improving of communication with NGOs, citizens and the business sector, and above all contributes to increasing the digital literacy of the population in the region.
Through the new platform, citizens (individuals and legal entities) will not only be able to electronically generate requests for about two dozen municipal services, pay electronically for the anticipated administrative fees and other fees, they will also be able to monitor the status of requests and be informed when their requests will be completed or if something is missing in the procedure and they need to submit additional documents.
The costs of maintenance and hosting of the platform are borne by the project as of September 2024. After the end of the support from the UNDP and the Bureau for Regional Development, the municipalities will independently cover the costs of the platform.
