According to the conclusion of the 177th session of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia from 24.12.2013, on 22 January 2014, organized by the Association of Local Government of the Republic of Macedonia-ZELS, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning Macedonian Ministry of Local self-Government of the Republic of Macedonia, held counseling on "Seven years of unsuccessful implementation of regional landfills in the country".
The event included the powers that municipalities undertake the amendments to the Law on Waste Management, which came into force in October 2012. Substantive changes to the law relating to the introduction of a regional waste management, ie the obligation of municipalities to establish a regional center for waste management, which implements decisions and regional policies in the field of waste management delegated inter-board waste management (where members are mayors of municipalities founders of the regional center). Through regional management establishes and organizes regional system for waste management with emphasis on a regional landfill waste and / or other facilities and installations for waste treatment.
Due to slow progress in the implementation of these provisions, it organize counseling presidents mayors of inter-regional boards for waste management, presidents mayors and directors of the Centers for developing of planning regions in order to summarize the current situation and propose next steps to accelerate the fulfillment of legal obligations, for which will be informed the Government of its next session.
