On July 11, 2018 the initial meeting of the Coordinative Body for Tourism Development in the East Planning Region was held in the premises of the Municipality of Stip.
The need for establishing such a coordinative body emerged from the developed Strategy for development of tourism in the East planning region with Action Plan 2015-2026, and the establishment is supported by the Programme for Nature Conservation in Macedonia – a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
The Coordinative Body is composed of representatives of all 11 municipalities within the East Planning Region and a representative from the Agency for Promotion and Support of Tourism in the Republic of Macedonia. This body will keep in constant communication with all institutions at local, regional and national level.
The goal of establishing such a body – first of its kind in the region – is reflected in the disorganization of the actors from the region dealing with tourism. The main tasks of this coordinative body include connecting all stakeholders from the tourism sector in the East Planning Region, developing project ideas for applying through domestic and foreign calls for financial support, improving the tourist offer of the region by identifying the key attractions in the region and proposing new, as well as developing an integrated tourist offer for attracting domestic and foreign tourists to the region.
The main objective in this body's work will be to improve the socio-economic development of the population by increasing the awareness of the benefits from tourism as a secondary source of income, improving regional GDP and recognizing the East Planning Region as an attractive tourist destination.
