Association “Savremie” from Sandanski, R. Bulgaria (PP7) and the Center for Development of the Eastern Planning Region (PP1) in the period from June 29 to July 01, 2026, organized training within the framework of the project “Integrated development of recognizable cultural and close-to-nature tourism in the Eastern Planning Region and Blagoevgrad Region” SERENE BGMK0200046, on the topics “Digital literacy and technologies in tourism” and “Management and certification of tourist destinations”, intended for 20 (twenty) representatives, tourism professionals from the Eastern Planning Region and the Blagoevgrad Region from the municipalities of Sandanski and Gotse Delchev.

At the training, the participants were introduced to the necessary conditions and steps for certifying a tourist destination, and discussed possible tourist destinations from our cross-border region, current situation, characteristics and needs. The second day of the training was dedicated to contemporary trends in tourism, through the presentation of digital technologies in tourism. Special emphasis was placed on how stakeholders in the tourism sector should be digitally represented, in order to reach more visitors and promote their services and businesses. As part of the training, the Museum of the City of Sandanski was also visited, where participants had the opportunity to get up close and personal with new digital tools introduced by the museum, as well as to learn about their archaeological and historical heritage. The last day of the training was dedicated to harmonizing new technologies in tourism as a support for the process of managing tourist destinations.

During the training, several practical workshops were conducted and experience was exchanged between participants on the situation in the tourism sector in both regions.
