Exchange of European experiences regarding the protection of cultural heritage in Estonia

On October 14 and 15, 2026, the fourth partner meeting and seminar took place in Estonia as part of the international project PROTECH – “Preventive appROaches To the conservation of Europe’s Cultural Heritage.”

The meeting brought together partners and experts in the field of cultural heritage protection to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices aimed at advancing preventive conservation and the sustainable management of cultural heritage.

The program began with a study visit to the island of Naissaar, where participants explored selected sites of cultural and military heritage. The visit provided a firsthand look at the challenges involved in the management, preservation, and presentation of complex cultural landscapes.

On the second day, a seminar dedicated to an integrated approach to cultural heritage management was held at the Estonian War Museum – General Laidoner Museum.

During the professional sessions, participants discussed experiences and activities related to the management of Naissaar Island, the challenges of preserving historical structures, and the preventive conservation of museum objects and artworks. Particular attention was paid to Estonian best practices, the involvement of local communities in heritage protection, digital mapping, and the use of modern technologies for the monitoring and protection of cultural assets.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the findings, agreed-upon activities, and the next steps for the project’s implementation.

The fourth partner meeting served as a significant opportunity to deepen international cooperation, foster professional networking, and exchange experiences, contributing to the development of more effective approaches for the long-term preservation of European cultural heritage.
