The Center for Development of the East Planning Region started with the realization of the activities related to strengthening the capacities of the population of the East Planning Region within the project “Our common past – path for a common future”.
The first activity realized in this period is to strengthen the capacities for sustainable use of culture for tourism development, which will contribute to improving the knowledge of stakeholders in the field of tourism about the potential and benefits of cooperation to enhance the attractiveness and the competitiveness of the cross-border region.
This activity includes three two-day trainings, where in the period 15-16.03.2021 the first training on “Interpretation of cultural heritage” was completed. During these two days, the participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with the ways of interpreting cultural heritage as a methodology for development of sustainable cultural tourism, shared examples of successful interpretation of cultural heritage for sustainable tourism development, worked on improving planning and the organization of cultural events and practically cultural routes were created.
The goal after completing the three trainings is to strengthen the capacities of 20 representatives on both sides of the border and to enable more effective use of cultural events to prepare a competitive tourist offer of the region.
The trainings are conducted together with the Municipality of Goce Delchev from the Republic of Bulgaria, which is a partner in the implementation of all activities provided by the project. Faced with the challenges posed by the new normality posed by the global Covid-19 pandemic, participants on both sides of the border are connecting via virtual communication to exchange experiences in the field and draw realistic and applicable practices for the future.
The project “Our common past – a path for a common future” is implemented within the INTERREG IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Bulgaria – S. Macedonia, co-financed by the Ministry of Local Self-Government.
